Dear TRT World readers,

Trump's Supreme Court pick Kavanaugh faces accusations of sexual assault
Brett Kavanaugh battled to rescue his Supreme Court nomination this week after three women consecutively accused him of sexually assaulting them. Most prominently, Dr Christine Blasey Ford came forward and provided a testimony of her allegations on Thursday during the ongoing Senate hearing. Ford spoke candidly while reliving her traumatic experiences, in which she accuses Kavanaugh of locking her in a room and attempting to rape her at a party in 1982. "I am here today not because I want to be," she said. "I am terrified. I am here because I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me with Brett." Kavanaugh denied the allegation, angrily saying he will not be quitting the process due to the accusations and describing the court proceedings as a "circus."

In Iraq, Daesh is seen as a friend of the US
Finally, in a feature piece this week, we look at Iraq's Salah al Din province where residents accuse the US of backing Daesh. "An elderly woman among them began shouting that the 'Americans brought Daesh' and insisted, with the enthusiastic support of others in the van, that all had heard others say they had seen US aircraft arrive in Daesh-held areas 'to help' the terrorists and demanded that 'the media report this' though she admitted she had not seen proof." A fascinating look at a province still affected by the war with Daesh, the piece is well worth a read.

Iran dismisses Israeli nuclear warehouse claims
Iran has denied claims it is hiding nuclear-related material in a warehouse in Tehran, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused them of continuing their nuclear weapons programme.

In a speech at the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu used enlarged pictures and infographics to support his claim of the existence of a "secret facility." Iran dismissed the claims as an "arts and craft show." Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, "The world will only laugh loudly at this type of false, meaningless and unnecessary speech." The International Atomic Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly said Tehran has been abiding by the deal it struck with six major powers in 2015.

Erdogan heads to Germany to reset relations
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will make his first official visit to Germany since 2014, as both countries seek to rebuild their relationship after issues in recent years raised tensions. "The most important goal of my visit to Germany is to leave the phase of the last few years completely behind us in our relations. In addition, it will be a matter of establishing closer economic relations for mutual benefit," Erdogan said of the trip, which also comes in light of Turkey losing the bid to host Euro 2024 to Germany.

Nonetheless, Erdogan's two-day visit will have a packed schedule with topics such as trade, Syria, the refugee crisis, security and rising xenophobia in Europe high on the agenda. The leaders will meet twice during the trip hoping to establish a renewed relationship between the historic allies.
