Mark Gormus/TIMES-DISPATCH | I hope everyone has been dining out this week - or has reservations to dine out this week - because it's Richmond Restaurant Week - the granddaddy of restaurant weeks. In case you don't know, Aline Reitzer, co-owner of Acacia mid-town, launched the first Richmond Restaurant Week in 2001. And here's some self-serving backstory - four years after that, I was a young(ish), spry intern at Richmond.com and thought it would be helpful to Richmond Restaurant Week diners, so I started the (thankless) task of trying to compile them all. Thirteen years ago, that meant calling restaurants and screaming over pots and pans and then waiting for someone to fax (yes, literally fax), a printed menu. These days it's a lot easier because of smart phones, but regardless - here you go - all of the Richmond Restaurant Week Fall 2018 menus - check them out here. (It's a three-course dinner for $25.18 per person at the participating restaurants through Sunday. Reservations are strongly recommended). *** Charm School is opening an ice cream shop on Forest Hill Ave., y'all, in South Richmond and that omg-when-will-they-start-building shopping center where The Veil is opening. I'm super pumped about this because retail is badly needed in that part of town (even though there's a strip mall down the street that's fully vacant for no clear reason). Anyway, read all the details and updates here. Charm School ice cream. Nicole Kappatos / Archivist | *** Stella's Grocery is now open downtown. Check out all of the details (and pictures inside) here. *** Kreggers at Hand - an approachable, American restaurant serving a little bit of everything, including (win!) entree salads- is now open in the Fan (down the street from Acacia and PBR). The menu is affordable and fun, but the big draw (according to me) is the awesome patio with a fireplace and heated umbrella and its own bar. Get all the details here - and see lots of pictures here. *** ALSO: *** Don't forget to scroll down for even more dining news. *** You can email me here. Tips and questions and anything!
