EVERY DAY PICTURES OF LIFE!

The Big And Small Pictures Of Life.

Every day in life, man is faced with myriads of problems to which one must make a decision to resolve the issues. For any decision taken today, two pictures are usually painted in front of the one taking the decision. The small picture showing the immediate result of the action taken and the big picture showing us the things that will likely spring up arising from this decision we are about to take. Because of the impatient nature in man and inherently so, man tends to see only the small picture and straight away, a decision is reached.

Eve saw the small picture. Gen 3:6 ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. The big picture that Eve did not see is their eviction from the garden and from the presence of God. She did not see her action laden with disobedience and the punishment thereof. Once anyone refuses to see the big picture, disaster awaits such a person.

Abraham did not see the big picture when his wife sold the idea of sleeping with her slave girl Haggai. To Abraham, it was a means to an end. If he was told that Boko Haram, ISIS and so many fundamental groups will spring up from the religion of the son that Haggai bore for him, I think he would have shown some restrain. The big picture must be sort for when entering into the decision room about matters of this life.

Esau saw a well prepared pottage and his self control mechanism got missing. Gen 25:32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? The birthright that he was going to sort after later in life was nothing to him in the face of great hunger. He wished he had looked at the big picture that he will serve his younger one; he would have spent another thirty minutes to cook food for himself.

David did not know that one lustful look at the wife of Uriah the Hittite will lead him to lost his throne and live in the wilderness. He saw the beauty of someone else’s wife and got himself entangled.  The simple picture he saw was that of just satisfying his urge and that was it. But chain reaction that erupted engulfed David to the point of writing Psm 51 in tears.

Judas and the team of Ananias and Saphira did not see death as the big picture when they acted the way they did.

In the light of the above, permit me to say, going forward, each one of us should stop and ask for the big picture in all major decision we ought to take in life.

It is the duty of the devil to make us only see the small and immediate picture. He hides the big picture from us. Our duty is to relax and think deep about the big picture. So many Christians have shipwrecked their faith because of failing to see the big picture.

Seeing the big picture will help us walk well as God’s children. Our big picture is spending eternity with him in heaven. Nothing should blur our vision. We must keep focus and not be distracted. Always desire to see the big picture. The power of your vision depends greatly of your inbuilt self control mechanism.
